Heart screening and imaging

Regular heart screening is important for maintaining your heart health. Heart screening can include blood tests to examine cholesterol and glucose levels, as well as imaging exams to both screen for heart complications and monitor current conditions.

Cardiac testing and imaging in Florida

It might sound cheesy — but we heart your heart.

It's one of the most important organs to your body and one of the most important parts of you that we care for. That's why diagnosing heart conditions is one of our specialties at HCA Florida Physicians. We will work closely with you and your doctors to get your results interpreted quickly so you can have a fast, accurate diagnosis and they can develop your personalized treatment plan.

Our heart imaging services

Screening and imaging aren't just about diagnosing, they are absolutely critical steps to your treatment plan — before, during and after your treatment. Heart imaging helps us understand how the areas of your heart are working together and how effective your treatment is. This allows us to personalize your care even further and to help you recover even faster. Some of the types of imaging we offer include:

  • Cardiac catheterization procedures
  • Echocardiograms (echos or cardiac echos)
  • Echo-Doppler studies
  • Electrocardiograms (EKGs or ECGs)
  • Electrophysiology studies and services, such as tilt table tests
  • Holter monitoring
  • Nuclear cardiology, such as nuclear stress tests
  • Stress testing, such as treadmill stress tests
  • Transesophageal echograms (TEEs)
  • Ultrasounds, such as those of the aorta and carotid and renal arteries

Cardiac stress testing

Stress tests for your heart are those types of tests that let us look at your heart while it is exerting itself. This type of test involves walking or jogging on a treadmill while we monitor the heart via EKG and a blood pressure monitor.

Sometimes, you may have a stress echocardiogram, which is a bit different in that it involves ultrasound imaging during the test.

When a cardiac stress test is needed

These tests are often performed for people who are experiencing heart arrhythmias (irregular heart beats) or sometimes chest pain without another known cause. You may also have a stress test to help your doctor determine a heart healthy exercise regimen for you.

Additionally, your doctor may request a stress test if you have:

  • New or worsening heart symptoms
  • Recently had a heart attack
  • A high risk for heart disease
  • Structural heart issues, such as valve problems
